Object Description

Pair of large Rococo style gilt-bronze and marble candelabra
French, Late 19th Century
Height 106cm, width 46/53cm, depth 23cm

These superb antique candelabra were made in the late nineteenth century in the Louis XV or Rococo style, in an elegant combination of ormolu (gilt-bronze) and veined marble. By Eugène Bazart, a Parisian bronzier active c.1860-80, they are each in the form of a flowering urn, and both signed to the square base ‘Eug. Bazart, Paris.’

Of matching but not quite symmetrical design, they flower naturally with a trio of gilt-bronze candle holding branches, blossoming with a large array of meticulously-observed flowers; the body is each is decorated with floral motifs and a pair of bearded masks set within scrolling frames on either side. The purple-grey veined marble complements well the radiant, crisp, immaculately cast gilding, and the urns are mounted on small square bases. Beautiful decorative works, they offer a sumptuous touch of antique grandeur and style for those looking to add something unique to a contemporary interior.
