Pair of Louis XV style ormolu-mounted mahogany and marble commodes

These remarkable pieces, large, and of rare and unusual design, are an excellent pair of Louis XV style mahogany commodes. Made in France during the 19th century, they are In bombe form, with indulgent, luxurious arcing sides, they are mounted with gilt-bronze furnishings and surmounted by marble upper surfaces.
They open with a trio of cupboard doors, with a large central section, and each face is framed with beautiful gilt-bronze decoration. Further ormolu elements decorate the separations between the doors. On the top, the marble surfaces themselves are wonderful pieces of material ideally suited to these, naturally adorned with a pleasing pattern and colouration, which harmonises with and complements the rich veneer of the mahogany and its gilt decoration. More elegant, grand, and impressive antique storage pieces with be hard to find.
