Object Description
Pair of mid-century Murano glass wall lights by Camer
Italian, Mid 20th Century
Height 82cm, width 33cm, depth 19cm
Made out of Murano glass and brass, this pair of wall lights is a demonstration of high-quality Italian design.
Individual hooks are attached to the brass semi-circular frame, surrounded by a collection of diamond-shaped Murano glass rods.
Glass made on the Venetian island of Murano is historically important and pieces made from it are highly sought after. The geometric, paired down and functional design of the wall lights is representative of design principles followed by Italian designers in mid-20th century.
Paolo Venini (1895-1959) worked with Camer on similar designs and it is possible that the pair of wall lights has also been designed by him. Venini was a celebrated designer of glass pieces, often made using Murano glass.
Wall lights manufactured from Murano glass in such an elegant design are a rarity, making this pair a highly desirable addition to the appropriate interior.
