The exceptional candelabra in this pair, by the famed maker Barbedienne, are crafted from red marble and gilt bronze in the Napoleon III style. Each candelabrum is adorned with a marble plinth base, which is raised on gilt bronze feet and supports the vase-form body of the candelabrum. This vase body is moulded in the round with low relief sculpture in a classical style. The top of the body issues five light branches, each crafted from gilt bronze and each adorned with scrolling foliate forms. The bronze is signed ‘F. Barbedienne’.
