Pair of Rococo style gilt porcelain bottles probably by Jacob Petit
French, 19th Century
Height 22.5cm, width 9cm, depth 6cm
This pair of bottles, attributed to Jacob Petit, is crafted from fine porcelain. Each square-shaped bottle is set above a waisted stem and culminates in a slender neck surmounted by a domed lid. The green-ground porcelain is parcel gilt throughout and is encrusted with a variety of pierced foliate forms. The front and back of the body of each bottle is painted with a scene of everyday life: figures inhabit indoor spaces, the manner and style of which refer to 17th Century painting traditions.
