Object Description

Pair of Russian Neoclassical style gilt bronze and blue glass vases
Russian, 20th Century
Height 33cm, width 16cm, depth 12cm

An impressive pair of Russian vases, fashioned from striking cobalt blue glass and embellished with gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts. Their elegant silhouette recalls the timeless form of the Greek amphora, a source of inspiration throughout the Neoclassical period. The glass bodies are finely worked, cut with vertical flutes and faceted detailing that lend depth, brilliance, and a play of light to the surface.

Each piece is supported by a square gilt-bronze base, enriched with a border of scrolling foliage. The rims are decorated with matching leafy ornament, creating a visual balance between top and base. Graceful handles, scrolling outward, are adorned with bold rosettes and further decorated with classical motifs such as acanthus leaves, a design element long associated with strength and vitality.

Combining refined craftsmanship with classical inspiration, these vases embody the elegance of Russian Neoclassicism at its height. They stand as both decorative works of art and fine examples of the taste and artistry of their period.
