Object Description
Pair of silvered and gilt ‘Fleur des Siècles’ flower basket models
American, c.1975
Height 12cm, width 16cm, depth 12cm
Set in woven gilt-metal baskets, these exquisite pieces are a pair of model flower arrangements made by Gorham Manufactory Co. in Providence, Rhode Island, to designs by Jane Hutcheson, part of the Fleurs des Siècles range of the 1970’s and ’80’s.
Featuring silvered and gilt-metal berries, leaves, and flowers on gold-plated wire stems, each detail is meticulously hand-crafted, with each piece individually plated in alternating use of gold and silver. Other pieces in this line featured porcelain, while these are exclusively silvered and gilt metal.
They were said to have been inspired by 18th century Vincennes porcelain flowers, and as an homage to those historic decorative pieces these beautiful home accents and sculptures similarly add a timeless and unfading beautiful quality and radiance.
