Object Description
Pair of very large French giltwood mirrors with scrolled acanthus borders
French, 20th Century
Height 264cm, width 146cm, depth 7cm
Of exceptionally large scale and adapting various antique styles, particularly the Rococo, these magnificent, very fine giltwood mirrors were made in France in the course of the twentieth century. With scrolled pierced acanthus borders on all sides, they are crowned with a pair of large floral bursts to the top and base, and are inset with clear, precisely delineated rectangular frames to the centre, that enclose without suffocating the large rectangular mirror space to each. As such they are the ideal pieces for those looking for elaborate, grand interior additions, with an antique touch yet without excessive levels of ornamentation: beautiful, grand, and refined.
