Object Description

Pair of Parr Factory Staffordshire figures with a religious theme which feature John the Baptist and the lamb of God (symbolising Christ), stood on a shaped base. Multi-coloured version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Decorated ‘in the round’ – decoration to front and reverse. Vent hole to the underside. Book reference,’Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875′ Book 2, by A.& N. Harding, page 30, figure 1726. Please note the figure is referred to as David and the lamb of God in the Harding book, but it is now widely believed to be John the Baptist and the lamb of God.

Object Condition

Right facing: Good. A few paint losses to the ground. Slight rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: staining to the lamb. RESTORATION: John’s head reglued and join retouched. Left facing: Good. A few paint losses to the ground. Slight rubbing to gilt. RESTORATION. John’s right hand and lamb’s right front leg remodelled.
