Object Description

Pair of Staffordshire Pottery figures which feature a cat, recumbent on a cushion base. Decorated ‘in the round’ – decoration to front and reverse. Vent hole to the underside. Book reference ,’Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875′ Book 2, by A.& N. Harding, page 238, figure 2871/2872.

Object Condition

Right facing: Good. A few paint losses to the base, cat’s face and tail. KILN EFFECTS: a piece of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the reverse; glaze accumulation to the left side of base; kiln soot caught in the glaze to the reverse. RESTORATION: Filled chip to cat’s left ear. Left facing: Good. Small flake to front of base. A few paint losses to base. KILN EFFECT: piece of kiln detritus caught inside causing piece to rattle. RESTORATION: Filled chip to cat’s right ear.
