Object Description

A fine double fusee mahogany dial clock by this partnership of well-known makers, dating from c.1820.

The original 16-inch dial is signed for the makers, Parkinson & Frodsham and is set behind a heavy cast brass bezel, hinged to the side.
The mahogany case has a curved base with pendulum access door, and also a hinged side door with material backed wooden frets.

The two-train fusee movement has shaped rectangular plates, and strikes the hours on a bell.

Object History

William Parkinson and William James Frodsham founded the famous firm of Parkinson & Frodsham in 1801 at 4 Change Alley, Cornhill, London.

William Parkinson died in 1842 and William Frodsham in 1850; the firm continued in business at the same address until 1890 and elsewhere until 1947. The shape of the pillars and the style of hands indicate a date for the is clock of c. 1820.

Object Condition

Excellent original condition.

It is photographed here before servicing. Once overhauled, the clock will be guaranteed for 3 years.
