Parr Staffordshire 'John the Baptist and lamb of God' figure

Object Description

Parr Factory Staffordshire figure with a religious theme which features John the Baptist and the lamb of God (symbolising Christ), stood on a shaped base. Multi-coloured version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Decorated ‘in the round’ – decoration to front and reverse. Vent hole to the underside. Book reference,’Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875′ Book 2, by A.& N. Harding, page 30, figure 1726.

Object Condition

Generally good. Slight rubbing to gilt. KILN EFFECTS: kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the base; over glazed shrinkage lines to his right leg. RESTORATION: David’s head, right hand and sheep reglued and joins retouched: Sheep’s right front leg remodelled.
