Object Description
An antique George III sterling silver dinner plate which is circular in shape with wavy edges, a plain body, a lovely ribbon-tied reeded border decorated with grapes and leaves and resting on a flat base. This wonderful plate is from the Lonsdale service by Paul Storr and was probably sold by Rundell, Bridge and Rundell. There is a crest at the top of the body with the motto of the Order of the Garter with an Earl’s coronet below. It would make a useful addition to a Paul Storr collection and it remains in excellent condition.
The crest is that of Sir William Lowther who became the 1st Earl of Lonsdale in 1807. He was also made a member of the Order of the Garter in the same year. He lived from 1757 to 1844.
