Penelope is the wife of Odysseus who waits for him at home during the Trojan War and the period that Odysseus lives with Circe. Penelope descends from the Spartan Greeks and was known for her weaving skills. During Odysseus’ absence, she kept candidates for her hand at bay by promising that she would choose a new partner when her weaving was finished. To avoid having to choose, she took out the newly woven piece every night. Together with Odysseus she had a son: Telemachus.
