A truly exceptional and very early original set by Pierre Jeanneret, comprising two Rope Back Demountable Chairs and a matching sofa. This rare configuration is among the most sought-after of Jeanneret’s Chandigarh-era designs, and examples in this form are rarely seen on the market.
Designed in 1951, these pieces were originally made for the private residences of Jeanneret and other key members of the Chandigarh architectural team. Photographs of this exact model appear in Jeanneret’s own home and were published in Marg Magazine, 1951 — placing this design firmly within the historical and architectural legacy of modern India.
The original examples used by Jeanneret featured spotted deerskin cushions. We intend to responsibly source deerskin and produce accurate cushions for this set. Once completed, updated images will be provided. In the meantime, if you are interested in acquiring the set, we are happy to produce bespoke cushions to your preferred specifications.
The set displays a beautifully aged and expressive patina throughout — the kind of surface character that only time can provide. Each piece has been professionally and structurally restored to ensure long-term stability while preserving the original spirit of the design. The cotton webbing has been sympathetically replaced in the original style, and the rope backs have been remade to faithfully replicate the original construction and materials.
