A rare and remarkable piece of architectural history, this Pierre Jeanneret Judges Lunch Table was originally crafted for the High Court building in Chandigarh, India—a landmark designed by the legendary Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier. As the name given by Jeanneret suggests, the piece was originally designed for Judges to have lunch on in their chambers.
This exceptional table features solid teak X-frame sides that exude both strength and elegance, while the inset teak veneered top brings a touch of refinement. The sturdy X-frame structure not only provides stability but also adds an unmistakable visual appeal, representing the best of modernist design, a design Jeanneret used in several of his pieces and within the architecture of the period.
As part of the furniture collection designed for the High Court building, this table carries with it a rich history and undeniable significance in the world of architecture and design. The teak wood used in its construction highlights the level of craftsmanship of the era, blending functionality with aesthetic appeal.
As with all of Jeanneret pieces, this piece was restored in London to museum standards and is presented in very good vintage condition. The piece is heavily patinated especially on the worktop. We specifically look for pieces with rich depth of patina, this not only show their authenticity but also bring out their true beauty. If this is not your taste, you probably have not read this line and this piece is not for you. If you are looking for a vintage example of this piece, it does not get much better than this.
