Object Description
Circa 1900, pine framed Orkney chair with old straw back bound by marram grass and top rail of old straw covered in marram grass. It retains its original pine frame seat with marram grass weave. The arms of the chair are simple with a slight curl at the end, typical of David Kirkness to stylise the chairs for the London market. Its back and arms are screwed together at the side. The legs are square and tapering, united by stretchers to make the chair sturdy.
