Circa 1890. A quality Qing Dynasty Chinese Hongmu whatnot. The stylish and well-shaped whatnot with six different shelves at various heights, each of the shelves with a solid insert framed in a faux bamboo, the uprights with pierced quarter brackets with bamboo leaves, repeating from top to bottom. The whatnot is polished on all sides, making it free standing, all resting on four simple feet with carving on the facing. The stand has excellent colour and patination and is clean and sturdy.
