Object Description
This very nice quality armorial George III silver lidded tankard was made in London in 1761 by William and Robert Peaston and measures 7.5 inches tall by 6.5 inches from the handle across and is 4 inches in dia across the top and 4.75 inches across the skirted base, it has a scroll handle with a heart shaped terminal to the bottom and a fleur de lys still terminal behind the lid hinge which leads up to the scrolled thumb piece that has an embossed acanthus leaf design to the reverse, it has a domed lid and is engraved under the base with F over WA 22.7 and has a beautiful florid cartouche to the front with a coat of arms inside, it is fully and clearly hallmarked to the side and inside the lid and is in excellent condition weighing 22 ounces or 685 grams.
