Object Description
This large Georgian silver inkstand was made in Birmingham in 1826 by Matthew Boulton and measures 11.5 in length by 8.75 inches wide, it has a large cast gadrooned and acanthus leaf border with two pen trays and 2 gadrooned bordered stands for the ink and sanders with a larger central stand for a gadrooned bordered miniature chamber stick and snuffer. The base is fully hallmarked underneath with the chamber stick marked on the side and both bottle holders are also hallmarked on the sides as is the central holder. The diamond cut glass bottles have some nibbling to the pattern but it doesn’t distract and there are no cracks or large chips. A super inkstand in very good condition by a very collectable maker weighing 34.45 ounces or 1073 grams without the bottles.
