Object Description
This large nice quality armorial George II silver lidded tankard was made in Newcastle in 1759 by John Langlands and measures 8.5 inches tall by 7 inches from the handle across and is 4.25 inches in dia across the top and 4 5/8 inches across the base, it has a stepped base and a girdle a third of the way up the body above which is a florid cartouche with a coat of arms inside and it is a stepped lid with an open thumb piece leading to the lid hinge which has drop detail behind it and a double scroll handle marked with the makers mark and a large heart shaped terminal, it is fully and clearly hallmarked under the base and with the lion passant to the top of the lid and is in excellent condition weighing 28.75 ounces or 893 grams.
