Object Description

An unusual Queen Anne oak ,elm and pine side chair and table. The shaped top rail above a centre bar with patinated pine panels either side, above a seat that tapers from the front at 24 ins to the back at 20. Rising flap supported by a pull out gate, bobbin turned front legs and gate with plain stretchers.Possibly Welsh and dates from 1710.

Object Literature

A very similar chair was exhibited at the Grosvenor House Antique Fair in 1950 by Mary Bellis ,see reference. It was thought to be the same chair but there is a slight difference in the shape of the top rail .

Object Condition

Fine colour and patina, the hinges on the fall flap have been changed a long time ago and the left hand seat rail is original but made of re used timber-see photos. The chair is 28 ins deep with the flap up and 19 ins tall at the seat/ table.
