A Stunning Rare 19th Century Demi Lune – Crescent Shaped French Desk
This delightful tulipwood late 19th Century desk is one of the rarest shapes being demi lune – crescent shaped.
The inverted breakfront top having a gilt tooled leather writing surface and tulipwood crossbanded edge enclosed by a looped gilt brass gallery. The front having two larger oak lined drawers inlaid with a flowered parquetry design enclosed by and tulipwood banding and gilt lower mould with the central drawer being recessed and shallower in height with all retaining their original ormolu escutcheons and cast keys.
The sides and rear of the desk flowing the same pattern of the drawer fronts enabling this beautiful desk to stand freely within the room with the rear being just as exquisite as the front.
With cast ormolu squares to the top the desk is raised on finely tapering square tulipwood and ormolu clad legs terminating on ornate square sabots.
This is a stunning desk in excellent condition having a replacement leather gilt writing surface and retaining its original gilding to the mounts.
A very rare and elegant desk for the collector or discerning private individual.
