A Very Charming And Extremely Unusual Mid 19th Century
Miniature Shop Counter Having Panelled Front With Carved
Decoration And Four Panelled Sliding Doors To Rear
(Much discussion is often had regarding whether some items of
miniature furniture were made as apprentice pieces, which is
when a craftsmen who is looking for a job at a workshop
would create something to showcase their talents, or whether
they were made as travelling salesman’s sample pieces, which
is when a few articles were made as scale models in advance
of a road trip on which the salesman would travel the country
showing prospective clients the kind of items that could be
produced back at the workshop and take orders from. There
can however be no question whatsoever that this is a sample
piece which would certainly have been made as a scale model
of to show potential customers when discussing the arrangements
and designs for fitting out their shop. It really is quite charming
indeed and just a well made piece of 19th century history with
a wow factor due to the rarity of its design.)
