Object Description

A stunning and rare antique Afshar runner woven in the south-west of Persia with a beautiful array of colours, large elongated Boteh design in the main field design.  This antique runner from the late 19th century has also retained its Kilim end finishing at the far end, which often gets worn away.  In great condition with a soft handle and medium high pile.  Woven on a soft wool foundation, they tend to be light to touch and come in a variety of designs.   We have not encountered a runner from the tribal weaving area of Afshar for a very long time, as they produced small rugs primarily.

Afshars are a tribal group which originally came from Azerbijan, between the Tigris and Euphrates, but after a dispute in the late 16th century with the Turkish sultan they left their homeland for their location during the late 19th century in the south of Persia.

Request a home visit to see this exceptional and rare antique Afshar runner in situ, we travel all over the UK, from Surrey to Scotland showing our carpets in customers homes.  Or purchase this runner on our website and we shall ship it straight to your door.
