Object Description

Woven in a Kurdish town in West Persia – Bidjar rugs are famous for weaving tough carpets and rugs in varying designs.  This rare antique Bidjar rug uses the stunning Mina-Khani floral design, with an unusual background colour of varying brown tones, a real rustic and ancient look to this tribal rug from Bidjar.  The pale blues, pink/red tones and greens are all natural dyes and have faded beautifully over the last 140 years.

Visit our barn showroom soon to see this rug up close and over a 1000 more.  We hold one of the largest collections of antique rugs and contemporary carpets in the UK.

Or by selecting a home visit we shall bring this antique rug for you to view in situ, along with more rugs if you select alternatives to view from our inventory too.

Object Condition

One end has been professionally and expertly rewoven, as this is a rare design and early rug, it was worth saving this rug and having the damaged end fully restored.  The three minor borders at the bottom end of the rug have been re-woven using antique wool and to the untrained eye would you struggle to see it has been done.  Please view all the images which show the back and end of the rug and the restoration. The rest of this rug is in excellent order and has a nice wool pile, some corrosion to the darker brown dyes due to the iron properties in this colour.
