Object Description
An extraordinary golden yellow antique Ziegler carpet from the late 19th century. It is incredibly rare to come across this background colour due to the expensive yellow dyes. More often using saffron or turmeric to dye the wool to get this remarkable colour, in the late 19th century it would have been a costly exercise and usually these grand carpets from the Sultanabad workshop in Persia were commissioned for stately homes across Europe and the US.
Measuring 520 x 425 cm / 17′ x 13’11” the condition is wonderful, with some corrosion to the ancient brown dyes, this wool had a lot of iron properties, which is why it has corroded over the last 130 plus years. This has to be one of our favourite antique Ziegler carpets we have ever had in our collection, and it has also recently been used in an upcoming Hollywood movie. Even more exciting that a few very famous and amazing actors have walked over it. We cannot wait to see the film!
