Object Description
A magnificent Japanese Meiji period (1868-1912) patinated bronze overlay Koro on stand. The body of bellied rectangular section, the sides molded in low relief with various figural scenes, flanked by sinuous dragon-form handles, the domed cover surmounted by a shishi finial with brocade ball, the base supported by four muscular oni, three cartouches, one inscribed Miyao, the surface of deep chestnut-brown, details picked out in a reddish gold; the wood stand on sturdy cabriole legs, decorated with phoenix among karakusa scrolls in gold lacquer.
