Object Description

A rare late 18th century (circa 1790) fiddleback sycamore Pembroke table of fine patina.

This table is extremely unusual being made from solid fiddleback sycamore and also being of slightly larger proportion than normal for this style of table.

The table consists of a solid fiddleback sycamore oval top with intricate banding of boxwood and ebony with outer rosewood crossbanding and a moulded edge.

The two leaves have an unusual added detail to the leaf supports, these having a moulded edge, this feature is most unusual and moves this piece into a ‘fine furniture’ category.

The table having a drawer to one end with ebony cockbead and rosewood, mahogany and boxwood banding with oak linings, the drawer having two fine quality gilt knob handles with replicated dummy drawer to the opposite side, below the drawers a herringbone banding.

To the top of each leg an oval inlaid flower design, possibly that of Lily of the Valley, with intricate banding and a herringbone banding below.

The elegant tapered sycamore legs with fine stringing leading down to diamond banding to the top of the foot all supported on original brass castors.

This table is in very good condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
