Object Description

A rare mid-late 17th century (circa 1670) oak moulded front coffer with fine patina (colour).

This coffer consists of a two plank oak top of fine patina with a moulded edge leading down to a superbly embellished front consisting of vertical chamfered applied moulded decoration with a dental moulding below.

This leads down to a central square moulded panel with moulded oak & fruitwood panels with outer moulded geometric decoration forming a larger square design.

To each side of the centre an applied outer panel forms an arcaded design with split turned applied decoration to the centre with further split turned applied decoration with a moulding below.

The coffer has panelled sides and a panelled back and is supported by original tall feet that have not been cut down.

This coffer is in excellent condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
