Object Description

An extremely rare and wonderfully shaped 3ft wide George III mahogany antique chest of drawers circa 1790-1800.

The rectangular mahogany top having a crossbanded border and moulded edge over a long drawer above three shorter drawers. All drawers being oak lined with a crossbanded border and cockbeaded edge retaining their original brass escutcheons and locks with each having a pair of solid brass hexagonal ring handles which are later. These are old handles having been on the chest since the late 19th Century.

The unique shape of this chest is a design of which as a company we have not come across in nearly 50 years of dealing in antique furniture. Below the top long drawer is a reeded edge, below which are the three shorter drawers which taper inwards from the top to bottom of the drawers with each drawer front slightly angled.
Flanking each of the three drawers the sides taper inwards with a moulded panelled front with the whole being raised on its original splay bracket and shaped apron.
This exception chest of drawers is in excellent original condition having been gently polished using traditional methods to retaining a fine mellow colour with an excellent choice of timbers used.

A wonderful proportioned and rare period shaped chest of drawers in excellent original condition.
