Object Description
A rare and stunning square antique Ushak carpet with sublime earthy tones. The background colour is unusual, using natural un-dyed wool, which is varying shades of white and grey tones. Using teal blue green shades for the minor borders and detailing and orange and pink hues too, the palette of dyes is wonderful and famously used by the Anatolian weavers in the late 19th century.
The square size and open design is really the perfect combination for a decorative carpet, with no central medallion, this excellent antique Ushak could be used in any room. Look closely and the detail the weavers have used for the small flowers at the end of the vines and the boteh motifs in the minor borders are so delicate.
