Object Description

This early 20th century reclaimed garden statue of Atlas holding the world is a beautiful focal point for a courtyard or garden pathway. It features a lead depiction of the Greek God Atlas elevated on a York stone baluster with weathering that only exposure through the elements over time can create. The Greek God is seen as he is often depicted, the copper sphere on his back representing the world.

According to Greek Mythology, Atlas was made to carry the earth upon his shoulders for all eternity as punishment for his involvement in the Titan War against the Olympian Gods…

Object Condition

Good structural condition. It is currently placed together; the baluster sitting on a square base with the lead figure placed on top. The figure holds a sphere which is threaded onto its back and can be removed. There are a couple of dents to the back of the sphere. Stone is weathered. Transports as 4 pieces. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor Losses, scuffs, and scratches.
