Object Description
A very fine architectural Regency period card table, attractively veneered in finely burled amboyna, banded in tulipwood, strung with ebony, and decorated with gilt brass mounts.
Circa 1820.
Why we like it
The table has a restrained architectural design in the Gothic taste, promoted in the Ackermann’s ‘Repository of Arts’, which, together with the fine exotic veneers, make it a wonderfully decorative and useful piece.
The rectangular fold-over swivel-action top, veneered in amboyna, crossbanded in tulipwood and strung with ebony, opening to reveal a burgundy baize-lined surface, over the panelled frieze, having beaded gilt brass mouldings, raised on a square and tapering arch-moulded, ebony-inlayed and gilt brass mounted column, above the quatreform base, supported by four bun feet with original concealed brass castors.
