Object Description

Regency Bracket Clock by John Hemingway, Manchester
Ebonised arch top bracket clock standing on a raised, moulded plinth and resting on four brass ball feet below an inset brass lined panel with line brass to the sides of the case surmounted by a brass ‘carrying’ handle. Fishscale side sound frets lined with red silk.
Painted dial with Roman numerals and original ‘blued’ steel hands signed ‘John Hemingway, Manchester’, with strike / silent lever to the top.
Eight day twin fusee movement with arch shaped plates of fine quality, striking the hours on a large silvered bell with pull repeat facility.
The backplate with border engraving and pendulum holdfast. C.1825
‘Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world’ by Brian Loomes lists John Hemingway as working in Manchester from 1822-1834.

Object Condition

very good condition, the clock movement has been completely stripped down and overhauled and is in full working order
