Object Description

A Very Good Quality And Extremely Elegant Early 19th Century Regency Period Mahogany X Frame Window Seat Stool, or Curule Stool, Having Upholstered Curved Seat With Reeded Mould Decoration To Border Edge, Raised On Very Attractive Swept X Frame End Supports, United By Turned Central Stretcher.

This lovely stool dates to the very early regency period, around 1810, possibly 1815 and is really very elegant indeed. The ends are formed of interlocking end supports and that creates not just elegance, but also of course strength.

The mahogany timbers which it has been constructed from are of a high grade, indicative of it originating from a very good workshop, which is further enhanced by the elegant reeded border to the top which is superbly executed.

Curule stools, or chairs, were originally made of folding design and the style can be traced back for hundreds of centuries. Of course as time went on the design was adapted and refined, but the elegance always remained in place. Originally the design was a symbol of supreme political authority, or high social rank.

As with all of the items which we offer for sale this item has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled antique furniture restorers, ensuring that it is ready for immediate placement within the home. The upholstered fabric cover has been relatively recently replaced and therefore remains in excellent condition.
