Object Description
Regency Lancet Top Bracket Clock, J.Chanceller, Dublin
Regency bracket clock housed in a mahogany case with brass inlay, raised moulded plinth with brass banding resting on four bun feet. Red silk lined sound frets to the sides of the case with Lion’s head carrying handles and glazed back door.
Cast brass bezel opening to the painted dial with Roman numerals and original brass hands signed ‘J.Chanceller, Dublin’.
Substantial eight day double fusee movement with anchor escapement striking the hours on a large silvered bell with strike / silent facility.
Border engraved backplate also signed ‘Chanceller, Dublin’ with original pendulum and holdfast. C.1820
‘Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the world’ by Brian Loomes lists John Chanceller as working in Dublin from 1811, he won an award from Soc. Arts for a clock escapement.
