Regency Period Mahogany swivel top patience table

Object Description

A very good Regency Period Mahogany swivel top patience table, the rectangular fold-over top above a single frieze drawer and the whole raised on turned, reeded legs.

The mahogany veneers used on this piece are of outstanding figure, grain and quality suggesting an attribution to Gillows of Lancaster.

The brass cups and casters are stamped “Cope’s Patent” exactly as several other Gillows stamped pieces we have handled in the past.

Though not stamped, this elegant table is identical to a “mahogany ecarte table” design with “mahogany partitions in [the drawer]” illustrated in Gillows of Lancaster’s Estimate Sketch Books, folio 3557, dated 14 December 1826, made by John Miller.
