Object Description

A Very Fine Quality Late Regency Period Rosewood Book Stand, Or Book Carrier, Having Elegant Spindle Turned Upright Supports And Scrolling Ends To Gallery Incoporating Carrying Handles, Over Well Figured Top With Crossbanded Edge And Original Turned Bun Feet.

Originally this beautiful little antique desk accessory would have been made to sit on top of a desk, housing a selection of books for easy access. Once that selection has been exhausted then it would be picked up and taken to the library, allowing for the books to be changed and a fresh selection brought back to the office.

The book stand is of excellent quality, constructed from attractive, well figured, rosewood veneers which are accentuated by the crossbanded decoration. It also boasts superbly elegant spindle turned upright support and unusually there appears to be no significant damage of any kind to these.

Overall the condition is good and as with all items which we offer for the sale this rosewood book carrier has been inspected in our workshops by our trained antique furniture restorers, where it has received a natural wax polish in the traditional manner before being offered for sale, ensuring it is ready to be placed immediate active service, where it would be a wonderful addition to any antique desk.
