Object Description

A Delightful Early 19th Century, Regency Period, Rosewood Tea Caddy Of Sarcophagus Form Having Boxwood Strung Decoration, Original Brass Handles To Sides And Hinged Top Enclosing Double Lidded Interior Raised On Brass Ball Feet.

This charming early 19th century tea caddy is of typical form for the Regency period in terms of its shape. The rosewood is extremely well figured andthe fact that this retains such a lovely rich colour and patina really adds to the decorative appeal of this piece.

Something else which adds to the appeal is tthe original brass handles to the sides, these are most elegant indeed. The brass ball feet are also almost certainly original.

Tea was a precious commodity throughout the 18th and 19th centuries and the purpose of a tea caddy was not just to preserve the and extend the life of the precious tea leaves, but also to enable the owner to lock away those aforementioned valuable tea leaves, keeping them safe from the house staffs potential wandering hands.

There is no key for this particular tea caddy, however it has been cleaned and traditionally waxed polished by our highly skilled and well trained specialist antique furniture restorers in our workshops before being offered for sale.
