Object Description
This mantel clock dates from the period of Charles X and is crafted from gilt bronze with a later lapis lazuli veneer. The clock body is columnar in form, having a rectangular profile with a semi-circular top. The body is supported by a gilt bronze plinth, which is raised by a rectangular lapis base. The front of the clock is inset with the clock dial, circular in form and inscribed with Roman numerals, which is encompassed by a gilt bronze border ornamented with star motifs. Below the clock dial is mounted a gilt bronze Classical vase-form motif, further emphasising the classicism of the piece.
The clock dial is signed in the lower half ‘Galle Rue de Richelieu’.
