Reverse glass floral paintings in giltwood frames
Continental, 19th Century
Frame: Height 55.5cm, width 58.5cm, depth 7cm
Glass: Height 41cm, width 45.5cm
These antique paintings make excellent use of the beautiful reverse glass technique, whereby paint is applied to the reverse of a piece of glass and set in a frame. The result is that, when mounted onto a wall, the paintings will cast a shadow, giving the paintings a stunning sense of depth and texture. The paintings depict bouquets of flowers in vases with birds, with landscapes in the background.
