Height 78cm, width 134cm, depth 64cm
This superb Rococo style desk was produced in the late nineteenth century in the style that predominated during the reign of Louis XV. The desk features a shaped top inlaid with a leather writing surface that is tooled and gilt. The front of the desk features five drawers: one central drawer flanked by two pairs of side drawers, with each drawer adorned with a gilt bronze frame and an elaborate escutcheon. The desk is raised on four cabriole legs, each terminating in a gilt bronze paw foot, and each adorned to the shoulder with a pierced gilt bronze mount. The wooden surfaces throughout the desk are beautifully veneered with a warm, lustrous wood, while the curved sides feature further gilt bronze frames and Rococo style mounts.
