Object Description
An ancient Roman, bronze, dolphin-shaped, fitting, most likely for military armour. The body consists of a undulating dolphin, with decorative terminals attached to its head and tail. At its head is a lozenge with two flaring ridges. At its base, the dolphin’s narrow tail ends in a scrolling fleuron. There are two rivets, one at each end of the fitting. The reverse is relatively flat and unworked. Some encrustation remains on the reverse, possibly where it was previously attached.
