Object Description

A fine Roman bronze brooch, modelled in the shape of a kylix. The vessel features a small foot upon which the semi-circular body sits and leads to a short neck, ending in a wide mouth. Two curved handles have been added from the rim to the body, on either side of the piece. The convex obverse has been enriched with moulded ribbing to the lower body and a frieze of motifs above; however, these are now worn due to age. The flat reverse displays the remnants of the original pin and catch-plate, which would have held the now missing pin.

Date: Circa 2nd-3rd century AD

Object Condition

Fine condition with patination to the surface. Pin is now missing.
