Object Description
A fine example of a Roman bronze plate brooch in the shape of a pelta. It features a wide crescent-shaped body with the ends elegantly curving inwards. A floral projection rises between the two terminals. In the centre of the body is a large circular depression, possibly made to hold an enamel inlay, now missing. Six concentric circle motifs, of varying sizes, have been carved along the border of the brooch, with two biggest ones adorning the terminals. The reverse in unworked with a dark green patina and features the original hinged pin, now fixed in place, and a curved catch-plate.
Date: Circa 2nd Century AD
