Object Description

A fine Roman penannular brooch, featuring a hoop shape formed from a single rod of bronze with flattened terminals. Multiple encircling incisions decorate the two ends. A pin has been attached to the hoop body by three coils. It is now fixed in position due to age but would have been free-moving and sat vertically across the diameter of the brooch.

Date: Circa 1st-2nd century AD

Ex Wiltshire collection of brooches and militaria, acquired 1980s-2000s.

Object Condition

Fine condition. Pin is now affixed to the brooch body.
