Object Description
A finely modelled Roman bronze belt mount, known as the vulvate type. The mount features a rectangular plate with out-curved long edges and an integrally cast, raised oval boss in the centre. There is a linear groove running vertically down the boss, giving the appearance of a stylised vulva or ‘coffee-bean’, as they are also known by. To the reverse are two lug mounts, sets just above the recess of the boss.
