Object Description

A delicate, Roman candlestick unguentarium blown from translucent glass. The vessel sits upon a concave base and features a domed body leading to a long cylindrical neck and out-splayed folded rim. The glass displays a beautiful silver-coloured iridescence throughout.

Date: Circa 1st-2nd Century AD

Object History

Ex SM collection, London 1970-2010.

Object Condition

Very fine condition. Some areas of the vessel are covered in earthly encrustations. Most of the surface is covered with iridescence. Please note, the iridescence is delicate and flakes off.
