Object Description
A very fine Ancient Roman green glass jug featuring an applied handle and vivid iridescence. The vessel features a globular body which rises into an elegant, cylindrical neck. An everted rim, with wide flat sides, encases the small mouth. Beneath the rim, a trail of glass has been applied as a handle. The glass ribbon extends out horizontally before splitting into two strands and descending at an angle to the shoulder of the vessel. The vessel rests upon a flat slightly concave base. The surface of the jug displays a beautiful sea-green colouration and translucency, enhanced by a polychromatic iridescence. Earthy encrustations and some scratches feature to the surface.
